Every year, cervical cancer is diagnosed in approximately half a million women, including approximately 2,5 Polish women. It is estimated that 50-80% of men and women will be infected with HPV at least once in their lifetime.
The HPV virus has many different genotypes, the most oncogenic and therefore the most dangerous are types 16 and 18, which are responsible for approximately 70-80% of invasive cervical cancer in Poland.
The bivalent vaccine protects against the most oncogenic types of HPV, i.e. types 16 and 18, which are the most common types of virus in cervical cancer, but are also most common in vaginal, vulvar, penile, and head and neck cancers.
