A modern system for monitoring viral and bacterial infections in patients/soldiers hospitalized at WIM-PIB based on analytical and microbiological tests
We present to you a compendium of knowledge in the field of microbiology and medical analytics, intended for laboratory diagnosticians and other medical professionals employed in hospital laboratories, Military Centers of Preventive Medicine, and outpatient clinics where medical diagnostic laboratories operate. The monograph contains several chapters describing the equipment used in the Department of Laboratory Diagnostics of the Military Institute of Medicine – National Research Institute (ZDL WIM-PIB). Atlases of microbiological and hematological preparations are also included. Additionally, a chapter on culturing microorganisms on media used in the Microbiology Laboratory of ZDL WIM-PIB is available.

A quarter of a century, 25 years, approximately the duration of a generation, is a long enough time to reliably summarize the cooperation to date, the resulting measurable and non-measurable, tangible and intangible benefits – the added value of the social and public good created together. Formally contracted, but above all based on partnership and trust, the relationship between the Military Institute of Medicine – National Research Institute (MIM – NRI) and the company Agat exemplifies activities that put the idea of a corporate social mission into practice in the best possible form: a strategy that takes into account social interests and cooperation with other stakeholder groups, with a positive impact on the efficiency of the business. After all, nothing expresses the sensitivity and responsibility of an employer more than concern for the health of the employees, striving to keep it in the best possible shape and for as long as possible. This is especially true if the priceless value of health can – thanks to the cooperation – be provided by a healthcare provider of the highest level of credentials, the maintenance and constant improvement of which would not be possible without the help and support provided by such a reliable and responsible partner as Agat SA

Album Achievements 2024
The most important achievements of the Military Institute of Medicine – National Research Institute (WIM-PIB) in 2024 reflect, among other things, our commitment to integrating advanced scientific research with modern clinical practice and public health activities. Last year, we initiated a strategic scientific collaboration with the University of Warsaw, implemented as part of the "Excellence Initiative – Research University" program. The decision to choose our key research and teaching partner was dictated by its outstanding research potential, extensive network of interdisciplinary collaborations, and recognized position in national and international scientific rankings. This collaboration resulted in the launch of six interdisciplinary research projects, including predicting the development of heart failure after acute coronary syndrome, detailed genetic analysis of uveal melanoma, and research on changes in the gut microbiome in patients after bariatric surgery. All of these projects are crucial to the advancement of medical knowledge and address significant health challenges facing society.
WIM-PIB also won first place in the national competition for the development of Clinical Research Support Centers. This confirms its leading role in the field of clinical research and its high efficiency in acquiring and effectively implementing
Utilizing financial resources to develop modern research infrastructure, essential for conducting innovative projects of national and international significance. A significant achievement in the area of innovative clinical solutions was the establishment of the first specialized unit in Poland dedicated to comprehensive care for patients with prostate cancer – the Prostate Unit. The center provides access to cutting-edge diagnostic imaging techniques, modern surgical procedures, advanced radiotherapy, and comprehensive psychological and rehabilitation support.
The Robotic Surgery Center at the Military Institute of Medicine-National Research Institute (WIM-PIB) has also experienced dynamic growth, with over 2000 minimally invasive surgical procedures performed in eight organ groups since its inception. The use of modern technologies has contributed to shorter hospital stays, fewer postoperative complications, and faster patient recovery. Summing up 2024 and reflecting on our achievements, I would like to once again sincerely thank all of the Institute's employees, as well as the individuals and legal entities supporting our efforts, for their invaluable contribution, professionalism, and commitment to the achievements presented, which have contributed to strengthening our institution's position as a leading research and clinical institution and to the effective implementation of its mission to protect public health and safety.

The year 2023 at WIM-PIB was another period of intensive organizational changes, with extensive investments and modernization efforts aimed at improving the quality, safety, and scope of healthcare services, as well as our research, training, and teaching activities. In this way, we are improving not only the conditions and scope of services provided but also adapting workplaces to the expectations and needs of medical staff, guided by the principle stemming from our deep conviction that health is not a cost but a valuable investment that should be planned and implemented as effectively and efficiently as possible. As always, our focus is on patients and their health issues, which determine the scale and scope of our commitment. They define the directions of development and investment in both infrastructure and professional competence. You will find more information about these events and many other important moments that occurred at the institute in 2023, which are worth recalling and remembering, in this yearbook.

The Institute's activities are primarily driven by the tangible achievements of its employees. These achievements are measured both by the spectacular results of its research and development efforts and by its professional development successes. Monograph Military Physician
This monograph was published to commemorate the centenary of the first issue of the journal "Military Physician." Author: Danuta Augustynowicz, co-authors: Aleksandra Karolak, Halina Rudnicka, Małgorzata Łukaszuk, Dorota Połeć.
"Military Physician" is one of the oldest Polish medical journals still published today. The journal's original publisher and initiator was the Military Sanitary Council, established in late 1918 by the Ministry of Military Affairs as a scientific and technical subsidiary body of the Ministry of Military Affairs in the field of military medical services. On January 3, 2020, the journal celebrates the centenary of its founding and its joint work with the Military Health Service for Poland and science. This anniversary is an excellent opportunity to commemorate its role and highlight its contributions.
