What are clinical trials and how can they help patients?

  • A clinical trial is a medical study in which volunteers participate—both healthy and sick. The study tests treatments for prevention, detection, and treatment of disease.
  • Clinical trials may also examine the effectiveness of new drugs, new diagnostic or surgical procedures, or medical devices.
  • Clinical trials are the only reliable way to assess whether something works for patients and what the risks are.

The Clinical Research Support Centre was established as part of a project financed by the Medical Research Agency (contract 2020/ABM/03/00020-00).

The Medical Research Agency, in consultation with its partners, runs the Patient in Clinical Trials website . This informational and educational project aims to provide a reliable presentation of clinical trials, along with key medical information. By spreading awareness about clinical trials, we aim to debunk the myths surrounding this topic, which distort the public's perception of clinical trials.
